Why You Need an Ultrasound Before You Decide

A home pregnancy test is an indicator of pregnancy, but it is not a confirmation. If you think you may be pregnant, an ultrasound is an important health and safety step before you decide what to do next. An ultrasound can confirm the location of the pregnancy, estimate your due date, rule out an ectopic pregnancy, and verify if the pregnancy is viable, which can help determine your next steps.

What Does an Obstetric Ultrasound Do?
An obstetric ultrasound can help determine:
the approximate age of your pregnancy
if the pregnancy is viable
if there is a potentially life-threatening ectopic (tubal) pregnancy
abortion methods by trimester
if your pregnancy is developing under normal conditions
whether or not you are carrying a single fetus or multiples
What do I need before my appointment?
Before an ultrasound can be scheduled, we will provide a free medical-grade pregnancy test with a nurse. If the test is positive, we can offer an ultrasound to confirm viability and how far along you are.
We understand the issues facing an unexpected or unsupported pregnancy and are committed to providing you with a warm, safe, and discreet place where you can talk through your options. We can answer questions about pregnancy, abortion, parenting, and your health.
Considering abortion?
If you have scheduled an abortion or considering the abortion pill, an ultrasound should be performed prior to a procedure or taking abortion pills. For your health and safety, it's important to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and talk to a nurse about your health history and medications.
An ultrasound can also help determine the cost and type of an abortion. We do not refer or provide termination services but provide education and information on abortion pills and in-clinic procedures in Columbia, MO and Boone County.
